3x3=9. sept 2025 group show
Welcome to 3x3=9, a group show that focuses on small yet interlocked storytelling!
Theme
I challenge you to create 1 artwork made of 9 smaller artworks, each measuring 3” wide and 3” high (depth is up to you :-). The 9 smaller elements can be used to create the narrative you prefer. Below are some examples among the many one could think of.
Example 1. The artist creates 1 artwork measuring 9x9”, cuts it in 9 parts measuring 3x3” and submits it as a 9 piece jigsaw puzzle to be reassembled following specific instructions.
Example 2. The artist creates 9 individual pieces, each measuring 3x3” and requests to place them in a specific sequence as they tell a story as an ensemble.
Example 3. The artist creates 4 pieces that tell one story and the remaining 5 tell its segue.

Who can participate

Any artist (or team of artists) wishing to take on this challenge can submit ONE artwork (as per below requirements). ALL submissions must be NEW, ORIGINAL artworks that respond to and take into account all requirements of this brief. Artworks out of the scope of the brief or not in response to the brief will not be considered. Due to space constraints, we will not accept NFS submissions.
Any art that we determine to be misogynistic, racist, offensive or similarly inclined will not be considered.

Requirements

-
The artwork must be composed of 9 pieces total (no more no less) – with each piece measuring 3” wide and 3” high. Depth is up to you and can vary on each piece. Pieces that respect the 3" x 3” requirement yet are not square are allowed.
-
You can use any medium, style, or technique you wish.
-
The piece can be displayed on a wall or on an horizontal surface in any formation (does not need to be a square), provided the formation does not exceed a total of 18" x 18" x 18” real estate allowance.
-
You are allowed to link/connect the 9 pieces using fibers or illustrations or other means.
-
You can provide the 9 pieces separately OR mount the 9 pieces on a surface of your choice.
-
If your pieces are mounted on a rigid surface to hang on a wall, note that we do not accept sawtooth or cleats – D-rings placed 2 to 3” from the top are highly preferred
-
If your pieces are mounted on a soft/fiber surface to hang on the wall, ensure it has hoops or built-in means to easily hang the artwork – no magnets or pins please.
-
-
If you submit 9 individual/loose pieces, please provide instructions on how you wish them to be displayed.
